The Shipibo Kimono is the combination of two Indigenous communities. The fabric in front is from the Sumba Island in Indonesia, and the back is the sacred hand embroidery by the Shipibo indigenous community from the Amazon rainforest in Peru.
Shipibo fabrics are medicinal songs or icaros transmitted through local shamans and healers, and than translated into colorful geometric embroideries by Shipibo women. Each song and corresponds a pattern embodying the energy of a specific Amazonian plant. The designs are a woven visualization of each plant song. They are believed to bring healing, wisdom, protection, or to attract abundance.
